Wearables: It’s all about you

Wentao Chan, Digital Consulting Leader in our China consulting practice was invited by the organiser, the American Chamber of Commerce to deliver a keynote speech about wearables on a roundtable themed “Digital Business Series: Augmented Reality and Immersive Technology” on Nov 27 2014 in Shanghai.

According to Wentao, Digital megatrends are converging to create the perfect environment for wearable technologies with the driving forces coming from unprecedented computing power on tap, extensive personalisation and analytics, proliferation of sensors, computing power and the digital self, communication and social collaboration. 

Research suggests there is a real market in China and wearables forecast to exceed 75 million units shipped in 2016. Chinese consumers are more likely to engage with brands digitally across a wider variety of use cases than their global peers. 

Wentao shared with audience the key findings of a recently conducted PwC consumer survey about the trend of wearables. 

Looking into industry, wearables can improve efficiency, productivity, service and engagement across industries. Wentao gave his views on such industries like retail, healthcare and entertainment & media and analysed the key success factors in China. On the other hand, security, privacy and cost are three main concerns to be addressed.
