Stress testing your anti-money laundering / counter-terrorist financing programme

As financial institutions continue to increase the robustness of their anti-money laundering/counter-terrorist financing control infrastructure, the methods by which money laundering and terrorist financing can occur have also matured, increasing the financial, reputational and compliance risk exposure present.

In light of the clear trajectory toward heightened regulatory focus, placing reliance on existing systems, processes and controls may not necessarily be a sufficient form of mitigation. One way in which financial institutions can address these emerging challenges is by stress testing their end-to-end anti-money laundering programme to ascertain whether it is sufficiently equipped to deal with these threat.
