Moving to the US

24 June 2019, Hong Kong

By invitation only

Research suggests that, despite Donald Trump's policies to tighten immigration laws into the US, the US is still one of the popular choices when it comes to immigration or work opportunities. Some people move to the US for work experience while others may move to the US for family or other personal reasons.

Many people are aware that the US has a complicated tax system and that it taxes worldwide income, but do you know what this would mean to you? What are some of the tax planning considerations prior to moving to the US? What are some of the tax planning opportunities while living in the US?

The session will cover the following:

  • An overview of U.S. income tax, gift tax, and estate tax rules under the US Tax Reform
  • Considerations for financial assets located outside the US
  • Pre-move US tax considerations
  • Tax consideration and planning opportunities while resident in the US
  • Factors to consider when you want to leave the US

Who should participate?

  • Non-U.S. persons contemplating on moving to the U.S.
  • Individuals who are applying for or have recently become Green Card holders or become U.S. passport holders
  • Companies with business plans to transfer or assign individuals to the U.S.
  • Third party intermediaries with private clients that may be interested in the above (e.g. wealth managers, private bankers, trustees)
