Marie Rowbotham

Marie is a director in Restructuring and Insolvency practice in the PwC China and Hong Kong.  Marie has over 25 years experience in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, providing advice to corporates in diverse industries on all forms of insolvency procedures and restructuring.  She read law at University College, London and is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants.
 
Marie transferred from London to Hong Kong in 1998 to project manage the Peregrine Group Liquidation.  Her primary responsibility was Peregrine Fixed Income Limited.  The role involved not only liaison with creditor groups and the government but involved establishing case law in the treatment of complex financial derivative instruments.
 
Marie has provided specialist advice in diverse industries the highlights of which include:

  • Drafting and implementing Schemes of Arrangement for insurance companies;
  • Dealing with management buyouts in large corporate insolvencies with varied investment holdings;
  • Dealing with the exit strategy for a bank in administration; and
  • Implementing a managed exit from a retail chain (orderly wind down).

Marie returned to PwC Hong Kong in 2009 and since then her most recent cases include:

  • Dealing with the repatriation of assets held by a liquidated company operating as a QFII in China; and
  • Managing the litigation strategy in respect of a high profile receivership involving retail structured products.
