 Singapore Budget 2009 announcements relevant to the maritime sector
Singapore provides a wide and comprehensive range of maritime services that meet the diverse needs of ship owners, operators and other players in the shipping industry. A key contributing factor to Singapore being among the top leading international maritime centres is the attractive tax and non-tax incentives available for the shipping industry. These incentives are further enhanced in the recent 2009 budget announcement.
On 22 January 2009, Singapore's Minister of Finance announced a bold and expensive S$20.5 billion budget package, which is aimed at helping businesses manage their overall tax burden, ease their cashflow and more importantly, retain their workers.
