Our cover story focuses on the IASB discussion paper on fair value measurements and how the IASB is seeking industry views on the proposed new guidance. Rather than seeking to change or expand the use of fair value, the proposals aim to improve consistency by 'codifying, clarifying and simplifying' what are at present a number of different approaches to measurement. The IASB has extended the consultation period from 2 April to 4 May 2007 to reflect the 'significance of the issue'. The exposure draft is likely to be published in 2008 ahead of the finalised standard in 2009. Other issues covered in this edition include the boom in Australian M&A, foreign capital inflow restrictions in Thailand, private equity issues for the Taiwan market, China's trust companies, growth in the Indian real estate sector, and optimising foreign funds' investment in China.
