Introducing the Enterprise Security Business Model from PricewaterhouseCoopers

In a globally connected world, success relies on security.
At the heart of our vision is a detailed, comprehensive view of security.  We call it the Enterprise Security Business Model (ESBM).

The ESBM shows the process that identifies, creates, captures and sustains the value of security in an organization.  It's our view of end-to-end security and reflects our belief in empowering clients to meet their security-related objectives.

Building value through security: An empowerment model.
This model works because it is driven from -- and uniquely linked with -- a company's own business objectives and supporting capabilities, including:

  • Organization -- your people, your culture;
  • Your firm processes; and
  • Your technology infrastructure.

These are the threads with which the organization -- and its security capabilities -- are interwoven.

The ESBM is not a service.  It's not a methodology.  It's an organized framework to understand how security can add value to a business.  Consider it a guide to the enterprise-level security you need to provide your organization with a foundation for success.

Finding a balance that works.
An important principle when determining the right amount of security is balance.  To move a business forward means greater inclusion -- allowing systems, environments and processes to be open to more users.  But ensuring safety means exclusion -- keeping out anyone who doesn't have an express need to be there.

We view these two opposing forces as Enablement (Security of Inclusion) and Protection (Security of Exclusion).  The Security of Inclusion represents the business imperative that the right people, including customers, suppliers, partners and the enterprise workforce, require controlled access to the right resources.  The Security of Exclusion represents the business imperative that an organization's information assets must be protected to ensure integrity, privacy and reliability.

Each of our services is designed to help you find the balance between these forces to seize a competitive advantage -- safely.
