Welcome to the second issue of PwC's M&A Insights. Published annually by our Entertainment & Media Transaction Services practice, the report covers deal activity and trends in the US Entertainment & Media (E&M) industry. E&M 2006 transaction activity was generated by both corporate and financial buyers and resulted in US$114.6 billion of completed transactions where deal value was disclosed, a record not seen since 2002. With a flood of mega private equity transactions announced in the last two quarters of 2006, and with numerous deals announced in early 2007, we expect this year to produce even more robust results. The report describes 2006 transactions in 11 sub-sectors and highlights the following factors that should drive activity in 2007:
- E&M companies capitalizing on the digital platform to combat stagnation
- Advertisers' need to address convergence in ways they reach consumers
- The impact of competitive pressures and the changing technological landscape on corporate buyers
- Private equity's continued interest in the industry
This report will be of interest to corporates as well as to private equity funds.
